More about Edwin
Hello again. This was fun to write. Get ready for nostalgia…
I was born in Worcester in the early 80s and moved to a small village in the county a few years later. It’s was a happy childhood. I first saw computers in my fathers office. I got my hands on a CGA machine and learnt what went on inside a computer. I wrote BASIC used, DOS. Like most ages in my computing history is defined by the games: Alleycats, Pharaohs Tomb, Kings Quest,Commander Keen and Catacomb Abyss.
Years later I remember upgrading from and early Mozaic browser to IE1 to see my first animated GIF. I was connected and the learning never stopped. Towards the end of secondary school I had published my first website. Even I felt a little of the dot com boom as I made html3 sites as overblown business cards. A-levels were all sciences, I like to know how things work. University was Computer science, fascinating but dull, stuffy and half cruft. I’d begun to meet adults who had achieved a lot on their own merit and I was making good coin from making websites.
I did few database driven and dHTML sites after university whilst holding down a day job. A few thousand pounds later I grabbed a visa, backpack and phrase book and with 3 nights accommodation booked, went to Tokyo. I built a computer and found a job. Living in central Shibuya was a lot of fun. This led to becoming a part of 77hz. We built a lot of websites together and I learn a lot about UX and high traffic website development. After five years in Japan, London was calling. Nine months of finding feet and freelance, and year and a bit working at Fortune Cookie leads to now. I’m out to prove myself in London’s fascinating digital industry.
